What IS this?

What? Liquid falling from the heavens? Incredible! The first measurable rainfall since early June has just occurred here at our Neck o’ the Woods in Montgomery County, Texas.

Ruby-throated Craziness!

The view out our picture window has been a wild party scene for the last several days - amongst some of the best avian fencers in nature. Anywhere from six to twenty Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (Archilochus colubris) have been busy constantly imbibing prodigious amounts of sugar water at our home in Montgomery County, Texas, in preparation for the great southward push down through the South Texas Brush Country and across the Rio Grande. Of course, they cannot just feast without constantly jabbing at and chasing one another!
